Managing Grievance and Disciplinary Issues

Who should attend?

Business owners, office managers, line managers and anyone with responsibility for managing grievance and disciplinary issues in their organisation.

Why should you attend?

Most managers (and employees) have some awareness of what constitutes a disciplinary offence and whilst “gross misconduct”, “breach of trust and confidence” and “dismissal” are often heard, do you have the confidence to tackle either a disciplinary or grievance issue and stay the right side of the law? Perhaps you have done them in the past but would like a refresher? This course is designed as a practical guide to help delegates navigate their way through these processes to a successful outcome. Getting Grievance and Disciplinary processes wrong can be a costly affair but the procedure and legal framework is not necessarily difficult once you know how!

Course Outline

  • The legal framework and the ACAS Code of Practice on Disciplinary and Grievance
  • How to conduct an investigation
  • Note taking
  • How to conduct a grievance hearing
  • Principles of the disciplinary process
  • Misconduct v poor performance
  • How to decide on an appropriate level of warning
  • Gross misconduct
  • What to do when an employee appeals
