GLOUCESTER WORKS

Gloucestershire Enterprise Ltd is an approved training provider for the new Gloucester Works city regeneration funding that is currently available for companies and individuals in and around Gloucester city.

THE COUNTY’S CHILDCARE SECTOR GETS BUSINESS SUPPORT

Gloucestershire Enterprise Ltd (GEL) and Gloucestershire Enterprise Business Services (GEBS) are delighted to announce they have been awarded a contract to provide business support services to the early years and childcare sector across the county. The contract, issued by Gloucestershire County Council (GCC), will be delivered under the brand name of “Better Business in Childcare” and will comprise a range of support services for childcare providers, including a dedicated advice line (01242 864123), one to one support sessions, a website full of advice, guidance, factsheets and templates, plus regular newsletter updates and training courses.

Kevin Holt, Managing Director of GEL, said: "This is a great opportunity to work with a sector of dedicated people who deliver vital services to the county. We are looking forward to working with them all and are convinced that, together, we can make it a success.”

The Council is investing in the Better Business in Childcare service in order to ensure the right volume and quality of childcare provision is available where it is needed most. The aim of the contract is to ensure childcare providers can sustain their business (and grow) by providing good quality advice and support that’s timely and accessible. It is also there to ensure new business start ups get off on the right footing.

Philip Timson, Director of GEBS, said: “Almost 600 childcare facilities are able to access these services and it is our first priority to let them know what’s available and how they can access it. We will send out a newsletter at the end of November and begin contacting each business thereafter.  All facilities will be given help to complete a simple business review questionnaire so that we can ensure our support services reach the right areas at the right time. ”

Natalie hits hole in one with her training

Natalie Dyke is the Operations Manager at Brickhampton Golf Course and this year she completed her ILM Level 5 Award in Management with Gloucestershire Enterprise Ltd.  But Natalie’s programme was different: she designed it herself, she chose the content to meet both her development needs and those of her company, identified suitable dates to do the training (to fit in with diary commitments) and tailor-made the whole programme.

Natalie has worked at the Golf Club for 2 years and wanted to improve her management skills in a number of areas.  She was looking for a programme that would give her the management skills she needed – and quickly - but also a recognised qualification that could either be stand alone or built upon should she look for further development in the future.  Natalie found her solution in the new unitised qualifications from the Institute of Leadership and Management and, after meeting with GEL staff, designed a programme to suit.

Natalie spent six months working on her training programme and said “The course was ideal for me as it covered every area in which I wanted to improve my skills.  I met lots of new people, some of whom were working on the same courses as me so we met a few times, and I was able to have one to one tutorials if I needed them. Gloucestershire Enterprise was extremely helpful and totally catered for my needs.”

Natalie took one compulsory module in her programme and then chose three other modules from over 25 available.  Her programme included: communications skills, leading successful teams, finance, motivating staff, selling and negotiating skills and much more.

Kevin Holt, Managing Director of Gloucestershire Enterprise said; “We are so pleased with the changes that unitisation has brought to leadership and management development.   The sheer flexibility means that no longer do you have to send staff on courses that start in September, finish in July and have prescribed content, which quite often staff have to do even though they may have done it before!  Individuals are much more aware of the areas in which they need to improve and so to tailor make a course to your own personal needs is ideal for both you and your company.”

GLOUCESTERSHIRE ENTERPRISE RETAIN THEIR INVESTORS IN PEOPLE QUALIFICATION

Gloucestershire Enterprise's latest Investors in People report opened with the following paragraph:

"This is truly a remarkable company and one of the best small organisations the assessor has had the privilege to be associated with. The brilliant culture that was evident 3 years ago has been retained despite the fact that business has changed during that time. To have achieved this through a blend of good communication and shrewd promotion is evidence indeed of the supportive and single team spirit evident here. Staff and trainers that were interviewed said that Gloucestershire Enterprise management was so totally different from their previous experiences."

NEW CENTRE OPENS IN THORNBURY

GEL's success in Gloucestershire has led us to expansion and we have now opened a new training centre in Thornbury, with the aim of providing South Gloucestershire companies with access to the same high quality, low cost, skills development training as their northern neighbours.

The centre is situated at Park House Business Centre in the High Street in Thornbury.  It is easily accessed from both Junction 14 and Junction 15  of the M5 as well as from the A38.  There is plenty of free parking nearby and the feedback from delegates so far has been most encouraging.

GLOUCESTERSHIRE ENTERPRISE LEADS THE FIELD

From a position of third largest centre in the South West Region in 2004, Gloucestershire Enterprise Ltd has moved to the top of the league to become the number one performing centre for management development awards.  In the first six months of 2005, the Shurdington based training company more than doubled its total number of registrations achieved in 2004, making it by far the largest and most active centre in the region.  Furthermore, in the UK as a whole, Gloucestershire Enterprise Ltd is now noted as a centre of prime importance for management development awards.

John Ashe, Regional Manager in the South West for the Institute of Leadership Management (ILM) said: “I would like to congratulate Gloucestershire Enterprise Ltd as the Top Centre for ILM registrations in the South West Region in 2005.  This is a magnificent effort and we would like to thank all the staff for their commitment to ILM during the year.”

Gloucestershire Enterprise Ltd has an innovatory approach to delivering ILM programmes, serving as an example of best practice and a benchmark for the quality of ILM programmes nationwide.  Their programmes are delivered in a variety of formats and at various venues around the County.

Kevin Holt, Managing Director of Gloucestershire Enterprise Ltd said “We are delighted to be the number one centre in the region and recognised in this way.  My staff and trainers have worked extremely hard to promote the benefits of ILM management development programmes and to make them accessible to many more businesses in the County, which has obviously paid off.  We are already extending the range of awards available and offering them in even more formats to make attendance and achievement easier.”
