West End Traders

West End Traders Gain Vital Support

Cheltenham West End Partnership (CWEP) is based in the Lower High Street and is a community based organisation which seeks to support the development of the area. Cheltenham’s lower High Street, the West End is packed full of speciality retailers. Oriental, South East Asian and Polish food stores sit next to a Guitar shop, Country sports store, Yacht chandlers and Electrical suppliers.

CWEP works with residents and traders forums to lead on and identify the needs of the local community and to co-ordinate regeneration activities in the area. Headed up by experienced community leader Bernice Thomson, CWEP has grown and developed since its inception in 2006. The organisation seeks to provide co-ordinated support for local businesses and in doing so contacted Gloucestershire Enterprise Ltd (GEL) last year to provide much needed business advice and support in the form of a training event, Business Planning for Business Success.

The event took place at the end of March to help local traders focus on business planning for the new financial year and was attended by a range of west end based retailers.

The workshop organised and facilitated by GEL helped local businesses to learn how to take an overview of their business’s current position, assess where future opportunities lie, and create a plan to take their business towards future success.

GEL Trainer, Miranda Jenkins commented “The Business Planning for Business Success training session was specifically tailored to the varied business needs of the west end based retailers Businesses that don’t have a plan tend to be slower to embrace new trends, sometimes fail to take advantage of market opportunities and often run the risk of falling behind the competition. It was clear that the traders are operating in a competitive marketplace and welcomed professional advice and support.”
